HBAdk sponsored 11 healing retreats during the 2022 season.
We now have our own facility and are in the planning process for a lodge and cabins. Once that is built we plan to hold at least one to two retreats a month year round. These retreats include wilderness activities, equine assisted PTSD work, hiking, canoeing, bon fires and team building exercises. Each retreat is designed to meet the needs of the participants with the main focus being on the healing properties of the Adirondacks. The participants in all the retreats report high satisfaction with the events and many reported the weekend was a life changing experience for them. From the gratitude and enthusiasm expressed by all the retreats were deemed to be a huge success on all counts. The retreats are staffed by a variety of volunteers from the community including Veterans, licensed social workers, Adirondack guides and other volunteers from the community. HBADK strives to provide quality retreats at no cost to the Veterans or their families. A major component of the retreats is the Vet to Vet discussions/interactions that take place. |
HBADK was also active this year in providing free medical transportation to Veterans and their families.
We did a number of local transports as well as providing transportation to Burlington and Albany. One of our transports resulted in the individual becoming an Intern for our organization through the Mission Continues Program. This is a six month fellowship that is providing assistance in manning our office, working on community collaborations and assisting with upcoming events. |

HBADK has also been active in providing crisis outreach, suicide prevention, referral and linkage services to Veterans in the community. We were the first responders to a couple of homeless situations and we able to provide assistance within hours of receiving the call.
Our goal is to link the Veterans and their families to all available resources in the community and serve as a guide, a clearinghouse and a friendly face and helping hand to all Veterans.
